Above: I truly love this little piece. It's a drawing that I've attached to a piece of scrap wood that I painted with acrylic medium and charcoal. It's called, "If I Started Living on Stilts" - it's part of a series of drawings I'm calling "Hypothetical Situations."

This is not the most even picture I've ever taken - but please just bear in mind that this composition is level. I just have a hard time taking pictures. One day I'll learn how to properly take pictures of my work - it will be amazing.

Summer is Here!

So, summer has officially begun which means that I have time to actually concentrate on making things that I want to make. These pieces are only in their beginning stages but I hope that you like them and enjoy them, etc. etc. I've been without internet recently, so please excuse the amount of time it's taking to post things. (Just another reminder: if you click on pictures you can get a much more detailed view, which would come in handy especially with drawings like the one directly below.)

So- let me just start off by saying that I have, in fact, painted much more than just this. But this is the only painting that is close to finished.

More Ceramics!

Ok, so, here is a more detailed view of a few (...or a lot) of the mugs I made, plus some other cool things. Remember - you can always click on the image for a much larger and detailed view. Enjoy!

For these three, I played around with putting decorative lines using wax along the side of the mug. These are my three favorite of the whole bunch:

The next two are also some of my favorites. The first because I just think the way the glaze broke up when it was being fired is absolutely beautiful, the other because I played with the texture of the clay. They're little flowers, and then I used a sponge to highlight them before covering the whole mug in a coat of Memphis blue.

The mug is the largest of the bunch, and I like it mainly because of the colors. I used an undercoat of lavender, and placed a coat of Memphis blue over that.

The next piece is a box, that I KNOW someone on here will like (cough, cough, Moses) - again, I simply just played around with making a design in wax before putting on the glaze. The other two sides also have robots. The design on the right is supposed to be a switch board.

The next piece is just a funky vase-like type of thing. I'm currently making wire flowers to put in it (I'll make the petals of tissue paper and adhere them with clear gloss medium.

And last but not least, I made four utensil holders. I think they all turned out beautifully and, as you can see, I've already put two to very good use.

End of the Semester

Here's what's been done in the past two weeks...

A painting inspired by Klimt's flowers. Pardon the effect of the flash, I'm not really technology efficient. (But you will get a pretty detailed view of it if you click on the image)

The next is not completely finished, but it's well on it's way. I can safely say that it will be done within the next two weeks:

Something Different

I made a sculptural piece! And these pictures include my adorable cats, so you know it has to be good. In any case, I really love it. I'm not really a 3D person but I think it turned out remarkably well considering my limited hand-building skills. Enjoy the MANY views of it.

As you can see, Audrey was very wary at first, but then...
It turned into some kind of kitty party. Yes, Cheddar was trying to attack my poor little blue woman. Yes, it is a woman, btw.

Triptych

Ok, forget anything I said about a different triptych. I scratched that one and made this one. My father warned me before I even started college that if I took art courses I would have to relearn everything I had taught myself before. The artwork you create for your academic classes and the artwork you create for yourself are two very different things. So this, for me, is going back to my folk roots, journeying back to the days when the only thing I knew about painting is what I had figured out on my own. Even though I have to call it a triptych for the time being, I think I'll consider them all seperate pieces when all is said and done. I'm thinking of making some changes but I'll keep updating as need be.

Ok, so even more work to show you! Some of it's old, but I realized that I really should pay a bit more attention to this blog if I really want people to get a feel for what I like to do. In any case, please enjoy.

First up is a sketch I did for a project that never came to fruition. Please excuse the lined paper, it's all I had available to me at the time.

The next painting is called Coast to Coast and I painted it a little over a year ago. It's not spectacular, but I really enjoy it. It was kind of fun because I just squirted a bunch of acrylic paint onto a canvas and played around with it.

So the very last thing I'm going to share with you today is a watercolor that I did way back in 2006. I really love it for some reason.

Yes, I am quite aware that I am mainly a figurative drawer/painter.

Some New Work

So! I have three new things to show you! Rejoice!

Ok, so if you know me and if you've seen my art in the past, you know that it doesn't tend to revolve around dark themes. We had an assignment to create a shadowbox for one of my classes, and I happened to be watching The Sopranos when I was deciding on what to do. So... perhaps that will explain the result...

And here is a close up on the dirt/blood splatters.
Here is a painting that I've been working on for a bit. The past few years have been chaotic to say the least, and hopefully this painting relays the feeling of being stuck somewhere and not really knowing where your future lies. Also, it's not the greatest picture. In person it's not so... bright. It's much easier on the eyes, I guess is what I'm trying to say...
The very last image is of a triptych I am currently working on in my painting class. Please don't read too much into it as I've only just started and these could all end up going in a completely different direction. I normally don't share what I'm working on, but for you I'll make an exception.

As a side note I'd just like to say thanks again to those of you who are taking a serious interest in the work I'm doing here. I'm really lucky to have a strong support that is comprised of many amazing friends and my incredible family. I hope everyone had a lovely Valentine's Day (I know mine was pretty great) and I hope that everyone is safe and warm!

Hello 2009, I like you so far.
This year has been incredible so far! (All 6 days of it) And I'm SO excited for the next semester to start. I'm taking four incredible art classes, all of which I'm so excited for. I'll be taking: Intermediate painting, Art in Film, Ceramics, and Voices of Visual Art - so expect to see some very new and very cool stuff!

I'm not really convinced that it's finished. I'll probably be working on it more over my Christmas break. I definitely like where it's going though.
